Coding Buddies & Code Club

What will you do?

Help elementary students discover that there is more to computers than just playing games. Teen volunteers work one-on-one with younger students to help them work through lessons on coding and other essential computer skills. Students learn basic coding skills, along with important topics like Internet safety and evaluating information.

Coding Buddies is for participants in Grades 1 to 3.

Code Club is for participants in Grades 4 to 6.

Hour Of Code, "Princess Power" and "Go Wild": This is a one-day program. Help kids learn basic coding skills through fun animal or princess themed tutorials.

Program Length: One hour, once weekly for six weeks.

Volunteer Qualifications

  • Junior and senior high school students (Grade 7 to Grade 12)
  • Reliable, a positive attitude, good literacy and computer technology skills, and enjoy working with younger children
  • Coding knowledge is a bonus but not a requirement

Volunteer Responsibilities

  • Attend volunteer training and orientation session
  • Be a positive role model for participants
  • Follow the guidelines set out by the program coordinators
  • Ensure that the participants have an enjoyable learning experience
