Set up and engage families in activities in our Early Learning Centres. Share early literacy basics and facilitate play with children ages zero to 12 by promoting and running activities, cleaning up and organizing materials in children’s spaces, and supporting staff as needed.

Playdate Volunteer
Facilitate play with children up to three years old with interactive and exploratory activities as part of Colossal Calgary Playdates and Baby's Big Playdates.

TD Read With Me
Help a struggling reader in Grade 1 to 6 discover the magic of reading by sharing fun books and literacy games.

Integrated School Support Program
Help Library staff facilitate games and activities to foster lifelong learning skills and keep students engaged after-school, on-site, at selected schools.

Learning Advantage
Help an adult with low literacy skills develop basic reading, writing, and numeracy skills.

Creative Writing Club
Foster a love of literacy with students ages eight to 14 by playing literacy games and working on creative writing projects and school writing assignments.

Math, Science, and Technology

Help teens develop computer coding skills that lay the foundation for web, app, and game design.

Math Quest
Help students and their families as they complete numeracy quests throughout the Library.

School Support: Math
Help students in Grades 5 to 9 with their homework, and foster good study habits to inspire lifelong learning.

Take the Library to new places

Libraries in Residence
Bring the Library to those who can’t come to us. Set up mini libraries in seniors’ residences or continuing care facilities and/or use book trolleys to provide “room service” to residents.

Homebound Readers
Deliver Library materials to those who are unable to visit the Library due to health or mobility challenges.

Help new Canadians learn English

ELL School Success
Help newcomer children in Grades 1 to 3 with their English language skills.

ESL Conversation Club
Help new Canadians improve their English language conversation skills.

ESL Writing Club
Help newcomers with reading, writing, and grammar skills.

Central Library Tours
Lead one-hour tours of Central Library, sharing stories, a brief history, and information about spaces.

Art and Community Circuit
Guide community walking tours around Central and Memorial Park libraries, focused on civic art, history, or nature.


Special Events
Help greet guests, provide information, and complete other tasks for special events at the Library.

Greet Library patrons and help them get to where they are going within a Library location.

Volunteer Resources can provide a certificate of hours or a reference letter upon request for volunteers who need a record of their Library volunteer contributions.

If you need to complete community service hours, please let Volunteer Resources staff know before beginning the assignment so staff can confirm whether the request can be accommodated.
